The amount of activity in and around CoMotion On King is definitely what draws me to this location. This morning, I found myself walking into the middle of a TV shoot. A rather unexpected way to kick the day off – and pretty cool, too!
I’ve droned on more than a few times about how cool CoMotion On King’s downtown location is. And apparently production studios agree with me. Today certainly isn’t the first day that there has been some kind of film shoot happening within a block or two of here. A testament to the architecture and urban character that surrounds us.
“Just tell me what they’re shooting!”
Today’s shoot is for the HBO Series, Jett. According to Wikipedia, the premise is a “fresh out of prison, world-class thief Daisy “Jett” Kowalski is forced back into doing what she does best by dangerous and eccentric criminals determined to exploit her skills for their own ends.” Across the street, the Royal Connaught has been dressed up as Hotel Josephine and the crew is getting shots from our rooftop patio as well as through our King Street windows.
Even within the CoMotion on King space, photo and video shoots are relatively common. One of our former members, Mackenzie Kristjon, and his band, The Mad Desire, shot some of their video for “Operators Are Standing By” here. Another photo shoot is happening here in the coming weeks as well – thanks to the exposed brick and design elements.
This, for me, is the type of thing that keeps the creative juices flowing. It adds such an interesting element to the day. And, it’s not something that you’d find, well, almost anywhere. I also find it encouraging, exciting and even a bit fulfilling that the continent’s creative industry is recognizing the appeal of bringing their productions to our city. Really, it’s a nice reminder of how cool it is to be here in downtown Hamilton.
